The Assistant Marketing Manager is a strategic and tactical leader in planning and managing marketing activities for frontlist and backlist books, including market positioning, consumer messaging, budgeting, campaign project management, and ROI analysis for each campaign. In partnership with authors, editors, vendors, retail sales and other team members, the marketing manager uses integrated digital and traditional marketing methods to ensure the highest possible unit shipments and revenue for assigned book campaigns.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Marketing Manager are but are not limited to:
• Develops and implements marketing and publicity campaigns for assigned titles and brands.
• Develops messaging, themes and tangible product selling hooks for new and backlist products as well as for seasonal and thematic campaigns.
• Presents marketing plans, etc. at key meetings with editors, authors, agents, sales teams and company executives.
• Creates compelling pre-sale and post-sale promotional strategies, including eBook and audio channels.
• Leverages best practices in digital (social media, search, email, etc.) and traditional (advertising, publicity, events) marketing methods to maximize unit sales and revenue.
• Builds reader, influencer and advocate communities via social media and email.
• Participates in the planning and preparation for all sales conferences.
• Manages budget development and expense projections for assigned campaigns.
• Manages author relationships and ensures clear, effective project management across author and virtual team members.
• Assigns and manages vendor relationships.
• Manages pre-and-post show event planning for conferences and trade shows. Attends as required.
• Analyzes marketing campaign and makes recommendations for adjustments and improvement based on those results.
• Manages and optimizes overall assigned marketing budget for maximum return on marketing investment.
Qualifications:
The preferred Assistant Marketing Manager candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:
Knowledge:Knowledge of digital and traditional marketing methods and best practices. Proficient with MSOffice, project management and marketing management tools such as SilverPop or similar marketing platforms.
Work Experience:Minimum of 3 years marketing experience, including digital marketing (social media, search engine marketing, email marketing, etc.), preferably in a publishing or other consumer content-related industry (music, entertainment, digital content, etc.).
Education:4 year degree in marketing communications, advertising, design or marketing-related field required
Industry Knowledge:Knowledge of publishing or other consumer content-related industry preferred
Skills:
• Strategic and tactical marketing planning
• Marketing campaign return on investment (ROI) analysis
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• High level of professionalism, relationship management, project management, attention to detail, and organization
• Demonstrated experience using email, search engines and socialmedia as a marketing and sales tool
• Familiarity with email and website analytics platforms, HTML, and Adobe Creative Suite a plus
• Highly proficient in basic computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Comfortable presenting to groups
Personal Characteristics:Positive and team-oriented. Highly professional in relationships inside and outside the organization. Organized, strong initiative, excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage budgets and deadlines. Passionate about the Christian publishing and content market preferred.
