Hired by Brookdale to be their chaplain to their Los Angeles area facilities; hired to provide pastoral care to patients, staff and families and to take assessments of patient needs, give regular reports, and general advise on hospice care needs of their client population.

2014 Sep - Present
Per Diem Chaplain
St. Christopher Hospice / Hollywood

On the chaplain team for this hospice run out of Hollywood but serving the larger Los Angeles and northern Orange County areas. Hired to attend patients at their location, to give pastoral support to patients as well as to family and staff. Also required to create a spiritual assessment of patient and his/her pastoral needs.

2011 Nov - Present
Volunteer Chaplain
TrinityKidsCare/TrinityCare (Hospice)
Since November 2011 I have been acting as a volunteer chaplain, visiting sick and dying children as a volunteer chaplain for TrinityKidsCare Hospice. I also visited adult hospice patients, too. I have worked with a wide variety of patients located around the general Los Angeles area from South Bay to South LA, to East LA, the Valley/Van Nuys, and Pasadena/Glendale/San Gabriel Valley.
2014 Sep - 2014 Dec
Inpatient Palliative Staff Chaplain
Kaiser Permanente / Los Angeles
Hired by Kaiser Permanente to be its half- time dedicated Palliative Chaplain as part of Kaiser Los Angeles’ Palliative Care Team. The team consisted of a dedicated Palliative Physician, an RN, a Social Worker and me. We also had various physician residents and fellows rotating through our team. This position involved me working 20 hours each week at Kaiser, but potentially required me to be on call 24/7 at no extra pay. I was the dedicated palliative chaplain working on palliative consults in the hospital, supporting the Inpatient Palliative Team, patients, families and care staff during difficult decisions surrounding end of life situations and other instances where comfort care may be offered in addition to curative care. I was the second and only other staff chaplain at Kaiser Los Angeles, the other chaplain being full time and involved in the general pastoral care of the patients in the hospital.
2014 Mar - 2014 Aug
Chaplain Resident
Little Company of Mary / Torrance
My role included taking assessment of basic spiritual and emotional needs (acceptance, attention, love, safety, freedom, validation of feelings and touch), determining and carrying out appropriate pastoral interventions (healing, guiding, reconciling, nurturing, liberating, and celebrating), praying with patients and offering ritual where called upon to do so and where appropriate. My role has further included charting my visits, and participating in family meetings as well as providing specific support for staff (such as “Tea for the Soul”) . I also introduced mindfulness meditation to the floors, giving mindfulness training to nurses at LCOMT, which was well received with many nurses reporting noticeable reduction of stress and anxiety.
